My firm has been handling art law and art litigation matters since 1981, and we have advised, structured and litigated all elements of the purchase, sale, auction, and collection of fine art, cultural property and the like, involving domestic and international transactions among dealers, museums, galleries, auction houses, collectors, and entrepreneurs.

Practicing Law as an Art
Our practice in these areas have included addressing key aspects of such transactions, including provenance, authenticity, title, condition, and value. It also involves intellectual property and foreign moral rights concerns, cultural heritage, patrimony matters, export and import concerns, and insurance issues. We have litigated art related cases in both State and Federal Courts in California, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, New York, Florida, and Massachusetts among other states, as well as a number of foreign countries.

Over the years, we have negotiated a variety of art publishing agreements, set up distribution systems for the sale of original and limited edition art in two and three dimensional media, advised on and negotiated auction consignments and auction house guarantees and advised on public and private commissions of art. We also have excellent sources for lawyers in foreign jurisdictions as well as relationships with appropriate art appraisers and art experts worldwide.

The firm either represents or has close relationships with a number of significant artists’ estates, including Renoir, Degas, Rodin, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, and Erte.
